General Description
Co-Ops work in operations to gain experience and knowledge in the construction and glazing industry. Co-ops support our project managers with all tasks related to each project. We offer a well-rounded experience in which students get first-hand involvement working in a manufacturing environment, on construction sites, and in our office. Students spend time in each department to expand their knowledge and skills of the construction industry and gain valuable experience.
Skills, Duties, and Responsibilities
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Takes off and orders materials assigned by PM and ensures materials are shipped on time
- Prepares and submits RFI's, Product Data, and Finish Samples. When distributed back to team, files commented documents, and updates logs
- Makes scheduled job site visit with PM to determine progress of the job, ensures all quality requirements are being met, and signs off installed work. Provides weekly project updates.
- Works with Project Superintendent on Labor Tracking
- Works with vendors to procure needed materials for the project, checking in on lead times/delivery timelines.
- Compiles product testing data to submit to GC/Client
- Gains experience with Construction Management software, tools, and concepts
- Obtains the skills to become a knowledgeable and valuable member of a construction/manufacturing company
WORK MANAGEMENT
- Complies with project checklist of tasks to ensure departmental consistency in workflow from start to finish
- Prioritizes responsibilities effectively and meets agreed project milestones
- Flexible in accepting work and communicating timeframe of completion of new tasks/ projects
- Shows up on time at the required starting time whether that is in the office, shop, or field
- Ability to track multiple projects throughout the day and prioritize tasks based on project schedule/installation needs
COMMUNICATION
- Communicates status and resolves any issues with internal teams
- Maintain a high degree of cooperation, communication, and coordination with all other employees
- Regularly attends project meetings
- Listens effectively to others
- Ensures verbal and written communication is understood
TEAMWORK/COLLABORATION
- Demonstrates personal accountability for work and creates solutions rather than blaming others
- Brainstorms creative solutions with the team to solve issues efficiently/effectively
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Working on an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field
- Recognizes and understands elements and symbols of blueprints, drawings and specifications
- Experience completing detailed work accurately
- Expresses thoughts, ideas and technical information clearly both verbally and written
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel, for project tracking, reporting, and data analysis
